Eva Mendes Sets the Stage for an Acting Comeback—But Only with Ryan Gosling by Her Side

Eva Mendes has revealed her condition for returning to acting: she would only come back if she gets to work with her husband, Ryan Gosling. Mendes, who stepped away from Hollywood in 2014, recently shared that she would return to acting only if she had the chance to work alongside Gosling. She hasn’t acted in almost a decade, choosing instead to focus on her family and personal projects.

Mendes and Gosling first appeared together in the 2012 crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines, where they played a couple. Their on-screen chemistry was strong, and it sparked their real-life relationship. In 2014, they worked together again on Lost River, which was Gosling’s directorial debut. Mendes shared that working with Gosling is the best experience for her, saying, “He brings out something in me that was never seen before.”

On stepping away from acting

In several interviews, Mendes has spoken about her decision to step away from acting. Speaking to The Sunday Times, she said, “I never really loved acting. I’m not saying this to criticize myself, but I wasn’t a big actress.” However, fans remember her for her strong performances in films like Hitch and Training Day.

She shifted her focus to her two daughters, Esmeralda (10) and Amada (8), whom she shares with Ryan Gosling. Mendes explained that it was a simple decision: acting takes you away from your family, and she wanted to spend time with her children.

New ventures and motherhood

After leaving the film industry, Mendes took on new roles as a businesswoman and children’s book author. She co-founded a cleaning products company called Skura Style and recently collaborated with the eyewear brand Look Optic. She also wrote a children’s book titled Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries, which focuses on childhood anxiety. Mendes shared that the book was inspired by her own experiences with anxiety, and she hopes it helps children and families talk openly about mental health.

Though her main focus is on her family and business, Mendes has made it clear that if the right project comes along, she would want to work with Ryan Gosling again.

Will she return to acting?

Mendes has hinted that she might return to acting, but only if she can work with Gosling. “That’s the only thing I want to do,” she said, explaining that many of the roles she was offered in the past were too typical, which made her lose interest in acting.”

For now, Mendes is focused on raising her children and her business ventures. Whether or not she returns to the screen, fans hope that she and Gosling will work together again, just like they did in The Place Beyond the Pines.
