Singer Jelly Roll announced on October 20 that he is leaving the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. He described it as the “most toxic negative app to exist ever.” He wrote that it feels like a “wild west” where people can be mean without facing consequences, saying, “I’m out.”
His announcement came after he performed at the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where he paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. He shared a backstage photo with his band and actor Jack Black. When a follower commented that Jack looked uncomfortable, Jelly Roll defended him, saying he was actually very friendly and relaxed.
Earlier in the week, Jelly Roll tweeted about the music industry, saying he learned it can be very “slimy” and promised to share more soon.
This isn’t the first time he’s taken a break from social media. His wife, Bunny XO, explained in a TikTok that Jelly Roll had stepped away because he was tired of people bullying him about his weight. She shared that it really affects him and urged people not to bully others online.
Jelly Roll’s decision to leave X highlights the impact of negative comments and the importance of mental health, especially for those in the spotlight.
