In a tense moment on the October 20 episode of Sister Wives, Kody Brown confronted his first wife, Meri Brown, after she decided to end their spiritual marriage, which had lasted 32 years. Kody told Meri, “Don’t blame me for not loving you… blame yourself if I don’t love you.”
This discussion happened after Kody received a call from their church saying Meri could get a divorce due to “abandonment,” a claim he strongly disagreed with. He felt Meri was never abandoned and could have tried harder to make their relationship work. Kody also blamed not just Meri but all his romantic partners, saying, “When I’m in love with a woman, that’s her fault.”
Meri and Kody were legally married in 1990 but divorced in 2014 so Kody could marry Robyn Brown and adopt her children. Their relationship had gotten worse over the years, and they officially ended it in late 2022, after Kody’s other wives, Christine and Janelle, also left him.
Meri challenged Kody’s claims, saying their relationship had been a “long, slow, painful process.” She was upset that Kody admitted he had been “faking” their relationship and giving her false hope for a reconciliation. She said, “I’m not interested in faking” and acknowledged that she didn’t want to stay in the relationship.
As tensions continue to rise in the Brown family, their future remains uncertain. The show airs Sundays at 10 p.m. Eastern on TLC.
